In celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the March on Washington, Assemblywoman Cheryl R. Brown (D-San Bernardino) will host renowned visual artist Synthia SAINT JAMES as she officially unveils her painting entitled “The Dream”, which commemorates Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.ʼs legendary “I Have A Dream” speech.

“Iʼm honored to host this special ceremony to pay tribute to one of Americaʼs greatest leaders. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was a man of great purpose and vision. His powerful “I Have A Dream” speech touched countless lives, unified our nation and ushered in a state of civil action to advocate and ensure equality for all Americans,” said Assemblymember Brown.

“As we celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the March on Washington, I want to pay homage to Dr. King and all of the civil rights leaders who came before me. They have given me the opportunity to continue their work in defending equal opportunities in education, employment and basic civil liberties. Art is a powerful medium that draws attention to and changes lives, so I thank Ms. Synthia SAINT JAMES for allowing me to host the official unveiling of such a beautiful and empowering piece of art.”

Also joining Assemblymember Brown in hosting the event are Assemblymembers Holly J. Mitchell, Chair of the California Legislative Black Caucus and Ian Calderon, Chair of the Committee on Arts, Entertainment, Sports, Tourism and Internet Media.

“The Dream” will be unveiled on Friday, August 30 during the morning session of the California State Assembly at 9:00am, and can be viewed on the California Channel (Comcast channel 108 in Sacramento).
