Sacramento Asian Pacific Film Festival Returns
Celebrate Asian American Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander Heritage Month in May!

The 2022 Sacramento Asian Pacific Film Festival is excited to return for our 6th celebration of Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) voices and stories in film and new media.

Presented by the Sacramento Asian Pacific Cultural Village on May 21-22, 2022 from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., nine screenings will explore this year’s Festival themes of Black and Asian Solidarity, Culture and Belonging, Food and Family, and Justice and Courage.

Featured films on Saturday, May 21 include a Special Presentation of MINARI, Official Selections NOT YOUR MODEL MINORITY, REPARATIONS, BLURRING THE COLOR LINE, and LUMPIA WITH A VENGEANCE.

Featured films on Sunday, May 22 include Official Selections THE DONUT KING, WAIKIKI, RICOCHET, and FREE CHOL SOO LEE, with a special presentation honoring former Sacramento Observer investigative journalist K.W. Lee, whose work gained freedom for Chol Soo Lee, wrongly convicted of a murder he did not commit.

An assortment of new short films by AAPI filmmakers will also be featured during the Festival, and several selections will be available virtually, through the Festival’s website.

Emcees include Shaline DeGuzman (AAPI Media Personality), Angie Tran (Mrs. Vietnam Sacramento 2022), and Hannah Nguyen (Mrs. Vietnam Sacramento 2020). Select Q&As and panel discussions will be livestreamed by Access Sacramento.

Kelly Fong Rivas, newly appointed Racial Equity Advisor to the Mayor, City of Sacramento, will moderate Saturday’s panel Black and Asian Solidarity after the 3:15 p.m. screening of REPARATIONS and BLURRING THE COLOR LINE with the filmmakers, who will be joined by Kim Mims of the Coalition for a Just and Equitable California, and Dr. Kristee Haggins, Executive Director, Safe Black Space.
