Sept 27 | Reparations & Reproductive Health Equity – A Conversation with Dr. Monica McLemore

Join California Black Women’s Health Project, in collaboration with the University of California San Francisco’s Milk Research Lab and the UC Davis Office of Health Equity, Diversity and Inclusion on Friday, September 27th at 6PM, for a powerful event featuring a crucial discussion led by Dr. Monica McLemore, PhD, MPH, RN—a renowned expert in antiracist birth equity research. Dr. McLemore will address how reparations and retrofit reform are essential to tackling the Black maternal and reproductive health crisis in the United States.

Dr. McLemore, a Professor at the University of Washington’s Department of Child, Family and Population Health Nursing, is well-known for her community-focused approach to reproductive health and justice. Dr. McLemore’s presentation will explore:

  • The intersection of reparations and retrofit reform as key strategies for improving health outcomes for Black mothers and families
  • The historical impact of U.S. chattel slavery on Black reproductive health
  • Current reparations movements in California, including recent legislation.
  • Opportunities to integrate solutions for Black maternal health into reparations legislation
