Volunteer with the SOL Project – Earth Day Litter Clean Up

SOLproject 700

This Earth Day, April 22, 2015, help the SOL Project clean the Meadowview Light Rail Station of tobacco litter.

Tobacco litter is the #1 littered item in the world! Tobacco litter is mostly from the cigarette butts and also includes packages and wrappers. Cigarette butts contain hundreds of poisons that eventually end up in the gutters, creeks and our rivers. Cigarette butts are made of plastic, which can take up to 25 years to decompose.

Regional Transit passed a 100% tobacco free policy at bus stops and train stations and we want to collect and count the litter to see if the policy is making a difference!

Volunteers will receive light refreshments and a $25 gift card! (Registration required to receive gift card).

Opportunity #1: Earth Day tobacco litter clean up, April 22nd, 4-6:00PM, Meadowview Light Rail Station. Tobacco litter is mostly from cigarette butts and also includes packages and wrappers. Cigarette butts contain hundreds of poisons that eventually end up in the gutters, creeks and our rivers.

Opportunity #2: Collect data in a survey to determine if Regional Transit’s new 100% smoke-free policy at bus stops and train stations is making a difference. Volunteers will document if people are smoking and look for tobacco litter, Thursday, May 28th, 11AM-3PM.
