Germans still have a taste for ‘racist’ food

A provocative blackboard outside a German restaurant advertising “gypsy schnitzel” and “negro’s kiss”, a kind of chocolate-coated marshmallow, has prompted a national debate about the bounds of political correctness. The sign has turned Grandma’s Kitchen, a hotel and inn on the Baltic holiday island of Rügen, into the latest battleground of a culture war over the persistence of racist slurs in some parts of the German language.
