White Wash Documentary Film Screening, Discussion and Exhibit

White Wash Document Film Screening, Discussion and Exhibit.  Black surfers break waves and stereotypical boundaries in this documentary and explores the history of rarely detailed surfing culture within the African American community with historical archival film footage to trace the development of this culture, from slavery and civil rights wade-ins to contemporary sufing in Southern California. Location of screening is at CCAS, 1519 19th Street in Sacramento on Thurs-2/7 at 6 pm. Join CCAS’ Exhibition Member and exhibition curator A. Michelle Blakeley, Whitewash producer Airrion Copeland in a community screening and discussion about the film. Indivizible presents “MinnieJean Brown” of the Little Rock Nine Foundation. The focus of the next Indivizible meeting will be on education with guest speaker, Minnijean Brown Trickey, made history as one of the Little Rock Nine, the nine African-American students who desegregated Little Rock Central High School in 1957.  Mrs. Brown Trickey is the recipient of numerous awards for her community work for social justice, including Lifetime Achievement Tribute by the Canadian Race Relations Foundation, and the International Wolf Award for contributions to racial harmony.  With the Little Rock Nine, she received the NAACP Spingarn Medal and the Congressional Gold Medal.  For more information e-mail Essence Hill at [email protected].
