Day of Hope in Sacramento – Convoy of Hope. Gates open at 10 am … rain or shine while Supplies Last.  All are welcome.  No I.D. required. The Sacramento Convoy of Hope is a collaborative effort between dozens of local churches, businesses, social service organizations, local government and Convoy of Hope. Activities and services include a health fair, free medical and dental screenings with local doctors, medical professionals and dentists. Giving away more than 100,000 pounds of free groceries. “Crime After Crime”, the dramatic legal battle to free Deborah Peagler premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and has earned top honors at many film festivals in the US and abroad.  Don’t miss the opportunity to attend the screening on Mon-10/24 at The Crest Theater, 1013 K Street at 7 pm in Sacramento.  There will be an in-person Q&A after the film with filmmaker Yoav Potash and individuals featured in the documentary. One night only at The Crest, a benefit screening for Debbie’s Campaign, a nonprofit project to end domestic violence and wrongful incarceration. Read more

For better or worse, Marlon Wayans — he of “Little Man” and “G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra,” among others — is going to play Richard Pryor in an upcoming biopic. Given his limited but praised dramatic experience, Wayans seems an unlikely pick for the part, but until we see some meaningful footage of the actor as the late comedian, it’s not entirely fair to judge Wayans’ merits just yet. Still, with production on “Richard Pryor: Is It Something I Said?” was set to begin Fall 2010, the time for judgment is almost at hand. Read more
