NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert series continues its annual tradition of honoring the undeniable genius of Black musicians who have long been the heartbeat of American music.

This year’s Tiny Desk celebration kicked off with a bang—Bay Area legend E-40 marked the 30th anniversary of his classic album In a Major Way with an electric live set. Hits like “Tell Me When to Go” and “Captain Save a H*e” pulsed through NPR’s intimate space, reasserting the rapper’s lasting influence on hip-hop and the Bay’s hyphy movement.
