Karmelo Anthony Appeal And Fundraising Fight Keep Case In

(Frisco, Texas) – Karmelo Anthony’s murder conviction is moving into the appeal stage while the money raised for his family is becoming a new flashpoint in the case.

Anthony, 19, was sentenced to 35 years in prison for the fatal stabbing of 17-year-old Austin Metcalf during a 2025 high school track meet. His legal team has filed a notice of appeal, arguing there are issues from the trial that higher courts should review.

The appeal is drawing extra attention because of the fundraising around Anthony’s family. Supporters raised more than $625,000 for legal defense, relocation and living expenses, but new filings say Anthony cannot afford counsel for the next phase of the case.
